Microsoft announces MSE (a free anti-malware) BETA

Microsoft notes that the threat ecosystem has expanded to include rogue security software, auto-run malware, fake or pirated software and content, as well as banking malware, and the company is aiming to help the users who are not well protected. (http://keznews.com/5842_Microsoft_announces_free_antivirus__limited_public_beta). But aren’t there enough anti-malware, anti-spyware, virus protecting software? I have Windows Defender and it works ok. But nothing spectacular. I doubt this thing will be any better.

Opera Boycott

Because of the recent recent anti-trust suit between the makers of Opera and Microsoft Windows, some people are advocating a total  Opera boycott. Opera is trying to gain market share by forcing Windows to have other browsers built into windows. Really now Opera? Shouldn’t the free market be used to decide things like this? If people want Opera they can download it. Here is an idea, build the best browser and advertise, don’t try to force a giant company to support your product. As for the people advocating an Opera boycott, probably not going to work because who actually uses Opera?

The Hangover

One of the funniest movies of the year. I was laughing through most of the movie. Four Friends go to Vegas to celebrate a bachelor party. When they wake up in the morning their hotel room is trashed, there is a tiger in the bathroom, a baby in the closest and Doug (the guy who they threw the party for) is missing, and they can’t remember a thing.  Through out the movie they have to piece together the clues they have on them to retrace their steps to find Doug.

It’s a very funny movie. I would highly recomend it.

Spy Sunglasses

June 19, 2009

spy logan

Pictured above are some sunglasses i just bought. They are Spy Logans from (http://www.spyoptic.com/).They are the most comfortable sunglasses i have ever owned or worn. Definitely better than any Oakley shades i have tried on.  Spy Optics also have an UNREAL DEAL of THE WEEK each week on there website where you can get certain items 50% off or more.

Spy Optics mainly makes sunglasses and motox/snowboard/ski goggles I own two pair of goggles and one pair of sunglasses. All reasonably priced, comfortable and high quality. If you are looking for cool shades or ski goggles that are cheaper and less ubiquitous than Oakley  Spy Optics are definitely the way to go.

Blogger of the Week!

June 12, 2009

So I’ve decided that I want to make people enjoy coming to the blog. How else by making someone a blogger of the week? Why the fuck would you care about that? I’ll tell you why! Because Alex and I are hot. Seriously, ridiculously, nearly dangerously hot. Aaron is hot too. With his sound system and cool shades and shit. But whatever!

The rules are simple! Each week Alex and I will go to a random post and pick a random comment and make you our blogger of the week. Being a BOTW will bring you many awesome things. Like a IM chat with either Alex or myself, a personalized BOTW button to display on your webpage of choice, and a spot on TCandJ to be a contributor if you so desire!

The BOTW will be picked every Friday. So get your comments going! Post as many comments as you like, but limit it to one comment per topic post. I won’t have people spamming our blog. Get crackin!

Run Your Own Business?!

June 10, 2009

We at TCandJ, that being Alex, Aaron, and myself (Tony), would like to eventually have our own .com instead of using wordpress. That costs money. Money that none of us have. Now I know there are people out there that have their own business and are using the internet to have ads to bring them new business. I’m sure they have something up on Google, or even another persons website.

But how do you get your ads on a webpage? Simple. You rent space on the page, and pay the administrator on a per-click-basis. I think this is a bit nonsensical. Mostly because rarely does someone click the ads because they’re afraid it might be spam or something to that effect.

So here is my proposal. As owner of TCandJ, I propose a simple solution to your advertising woes. Buy us a .com and pay for server space, and we keep your ad up forever. No if, ands, or buts about it. Your ad will be backed by our blog saying it is not spam or a scam, and it will be visible at all times by our viewers.

Speaking of, after a review of our numbers, in just two months we have managed to rack up 227 views. That means that in one year we would have 2,724 views. Imagine how many clicks on your ad that would be. Imagine how much more business that would bring you. Now with our own .com comes a more easily spread webpage. No long and messy URLs. Along with having our own .com, we would have the ability to customize the look of our page from something that is a bland template to a one-of-a-kind webpage. Bringing more attention to the site, and more attention to your ad.

The internet is the future. Now a small business will need to be seen to make a profit. With over 2.5 thousand views a year, a profit can and will be made. Don’t let this opportunity pass you by! Feel free to email our administrators at the following addresses.

So if you watched the WWDC you’d have seen a large bit of the segment dedicated to the iPhone and Snow Leopard. Phil managed to squeeze in the fact that there is no more Aluminum Unibody Enclosure Macbooks. The only laptop dubbed a ‘Macbook’ is the white polycarbonate shell offered for $999.99 as standardly configured. The Aluminum 13 inch Macbook has now been placed in the Macbook Pro family, and has had some substantial upgrades to make go toe-to-toe with the 15 and 17 inch Pros.

With all the upgrades, which include a bump in processor speed, hard drive space, and more RAM, they still managed to cut off 300 dollars the price! Making the new 13 inch Macbook Pro cost a lovely $1199.99. Only 200 more dollars than the white Macbook. That 200 dollars buys you a prettier enclosure and some serious hardware tweak.

Series Tied At 3

June 10, 2009

Tuesday June 9th, 2009.
Game 6
Detroit VS Pittsburgh at Mellon Arena in Pittsburgh

Wow!
Detroit lead the series 3-2 at the beginning of this game. The Stanley Cup was in the arena tonight ready to be handed over.
Lucky for EVERY Penguins fan that nightmare didn’t happen two years in a row. Not yet at least.

During the first period nothing too intense happened. The Detroit Red Wings #40 Henrik Zetterberg got a ‘goaltender interference’ penalty and #51 Valtteri Filppula got a ‘tripping’ penalty. That gave the penguins a little boost of motivation that they needed to win the game.

During the second period, with 51 seconds left on the clock #11 Jordan Staal took a wrist shot that came from #48 Tyler Kennedy and #4 Rob Scuderi that went just past the Red Wings goaltender, #30 Chris Osgood. (I’m going to continue to call him Chris Wasgood) I’m original. I know. That was the exciting turning point of this period and the turning point of the game. There were no penalties during the 2nd period.

During the third period I couldn’t breathe at all. Having a one goal lead is nothing when a) you’re in game six and could lose everything you’ve worked for all season and b) when you’re playing against the Detroit Red Wings. With 5:35 off the clock in the 3rd period Tyler Kennedy got his 2nd point of the game with a well placed shot that went right past Osgood’s waist. Assists came from #25 Maxime Talbot and #26 Ruslan Fedotenko.
Less than three minutes later, 11:59 left on the clock, #33 Kris Draper of the Detroit Red Wings answered back with a lucky wrist shot that went past #29 Marc-Andre Fleury’s shoulder. Assisting Draper was #52 Jonathan Ericcson and #5 Nicklas Lidstrom. Draper updated the score board to 2-1.
At that moment my heart sank. I was just calming down and my heart was beginning to learn how to beat normally again. After the puck dropped after the goal the Red Wings were fired up and playing incredibly hard. The Stanley Cup was taken out of the case and was being polished and cleaned on a table in a hallway off ice.
With 10:42 seconds left on the clock #71 Evgeni Malkin made the worst decision possible. A ‘cross checking’ penalty was drawn. Detroit was on a powerplay for the next two minutes.
Now just to give you an update on the Red Wings and their powerplay ability. Last game they played, on Saturday June 6th. Detroit won 5-0. Three of the goals were power play goals. My heart was beating and skipping around all in my chest, my stomach was twisting and turning. AND I’M NOT EVEN PLAYING, I’M JUST WATCHING!
Luckily the penguins killed the penalty. Oh? What? That isn’t the only penalty in the 3rd period? That’s right. #13 Bill Guerin was given a ‘hi sticking’ penalty at 12:40. Detroit has the extra attacker out for another two minutes. The penguins do it again and kill off ANOTHER penalty. PHEW!!
There was about a minute and a half left on the clock in the 3rd period when Chris Osgood  was called over to bench and the extra attacker was sent out to try and tie the score. None of the Red Wings could get past Fleury even if they did have many good chances. The last minute of the game I’m pretty sure took about 10 minutes. I was holding my breathe the entire time.
Eighteen seconds left on the clock the Red Wings almost scored but Scuderi blocked the shot twice, once with his stick the next time with his left skate. The clock ran out to 0:00 and everyone was on their feet cheering.
We’re going to a game 7!
Friday June 12th at 8PM Eastern time on NBC. The Stanley Cup will be awarded to the winner that night. It will be a very big night, and I hope everyone watches.

Go Penguins! Let’s win the cup this year!

Safari 4 Release

June 10, 2009

Safari 4. From beta to it’s official release yesterday during the WWDC (World Wide Developers Conference) it has been a widely discussed topic in Apple’s lineup of applications. Having been skeptical about the new tab layout, that being the tabs where displayed above the address bar instead of below like most people are accustomed to, I decided not to try it out. They fixed that problem in the official release and the tabs are now below the address bar in its rightful place, in my opinion.

Safari 4 brings a lot of new features to the table. One of the most popular being the ‘Top Sites’ feature built into the browser. Now I downloaded the updates for my white Macbook this afternoon. I’ve only been playing with it for a few hours now and the updated Safari seems to load pages a bit faster than they did before. Which is good. Now the only issue I have with Safari is the new feature called Top Sites. It displays in a panoramic view the webpages you visit most. No matter what they are. Even the unmentionable sites are brought up for whoever is sitting at the keyboard to see. Every time a new tab is opened, the Top Sites are displayed. They can be arranged to any certain order you’d prefer. They can even be deleted from the list, but the problem I have is that it will just bring up another webpage from the history. No longer displaying the most visited sites, but just showing what I have gone to from my browsing history.

With a bit more tinkering, I’m sure I can customize it to suit my needs as an avid web browser, but for right now it just seems to be causing a lot of frustration and headache. Another review will be posted as I learn the in’s and out’s of the browser, but for now this is what I got.

Up

June 9, 2009

I saw this movie last night with Sara and her mom. We went to see it in 3D which I think was the right idea.
It was the most amazing kids movie I’ve seen. I think there were a lot of things in it that little kids wouldn’t understand what was going on, and I’m not talking about the “adult references” like in other disney movies, but this one had some older things in the story line.
In the first 15 minutes I shed a tear, that’s right. I cried a little bit at a cartoon. The way that Carl (The main character) cared for his wife and the way he looked at her and the way they spent their life together. It was perfect, I know the way he felt, I understand why he did what he did why he did. I love watching movies and being able to relate to the characters.
In some movies you can find scenes that could be left out if the movie was too long, but in Up there wasn’t anything I would take out. All the scenes were necessary, and all the characters were an important part of the movie.
This is one of the best movies I’ve seen this year. Throughout the entire movie, I think at least three tears fell, but luckily I was wearing the 3D glasses which kept sliding so I could play it off like I was pushing the glasses up instead of wiping my eyes.

A movie that was good the first time. Not so great the second time… Ally and I watched it in theaters when it first came out. Hilarious. I loved every bit of it. We rented it and watched it again a second time around with some friends over. It wasn’t all that good. I mean, it was, but not really. It’s one of those movies that you can watch once and really enjoy but the second time around just find annoying.

Rent it, buy it, or bootleg it. I don’t care how you see it, but you need to see this movie. It has a good cast, good plot, and good humor. I’d give it a B+
